Watch the clock — two of these expire

A notarized DS-3053 passport consent expires 90 days after the date of notarization. The Texas immunization exemption affidavit must reach the school within 90 days of notarization and is then valid for two years. Notarizing too early is a real and common mistake: the document is refused and the family starts over. If you are not sure of your timeline, call before you sign.

When one parent is out of state

Passport consents and travel letters frequently involve a parent who is not in Texas. We are commissioned in Texas as an online notary, so in many cases that parent can sign remotely by video instead of flying in — if the office receiving the document accepts a remotely notarized signature. Confirm that with them first.
